Our mine, situated in the Limpopo Province about 60 kilometers from Lydenburg and 40 kilometers from Burgersfort, and is a world-class producer of Chrome Ore.
The successful applicant will report to the Section Manager or nominee.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Grade 12/Standard 10 Certificate.
- Permanent Blasting for Scheduled Mines / National Certificate: Hard Rock Underground.
- Mine Overseer Certificate.
- Code 08 (B) Driver’s Licence.
- Advantageous: B-Tech/Degree in Mining Engineering.
- Advantageous: Mine Managers Certificate.
- Advantageous: Supervisory Certificate
EXPERIENCE (including but not limited to):
- 5 years underground trackless mining experience of which 2 years must be a supervisor.
- Advantageous: Exposure to night shift as acting/relieving or appointed Night Shift Mine Overseer
- Advantageous: Exposure to acting/relieving as Mine Overseer
- Advantageous: Ability to work permanent night shift as Mine Overseer
DUTIES (including but not limited to):
Plan, execute and manage the section in line with the department/ functional requirements to meet production requirements. To implement and manage health, safety, environmental, risk and quality systems to ensure the mine section meet legal requirements and continuously strives to improve its inherent risk profile.
Financial Perspective:
- Contribute to annual departmental budget planning by compiling operational, capex and labour budgets for sub-function and submit to line management for approval.
- Effectively manage sub-function and its objectives in line with approved budgets (operational, capex and labour), report variances as required and recommend / implement remedial action within span of control.
- Review and authorize payments in line with approved budget and policy and submit for final processing.
- Ensure mining team in charge of the lamp room is complying with regulations.
- Planning for blasting and drilling making sure all equipment is available prior and inspects the process.
- Mitigation of risk and ensure compliance.
- Manage and delegate the mining cycle activities to relevant supervisors for both day shift and night shift.
- Manage the correct drill parameters.
- Determine and enforce the drilling parameters.
- Manage, control, and improve production and mining operations, including contractor performance against service level agreements to achieve production and targets.
- Assist management in setting achievable production targets, taking into account client demand and internal process capacity and constraints and to manage the short-term production plan.
- Coordinate all Mining logistics.
- Report operational issues, safety concerns and production results during night shift to management
- Production / Technical / Services goals derived from business plan.
- Own functional portion of business scorecard. Manage, control, and improve production and mining operations, including contractor performance against service level agreements in order to achieve production and targets.
- Assist management in setting achievable production targets, considering client demand and internal process capacity and constraints and to manage the short-term production plan.
- Coordinate all Mining logistics.
- Overseeing all night shift operations, coordinating equipment and personnel to meet production goals.
- Ensure Night Shift planning is in line with expected production targets
- Ensuring smooth handovers with day shift personnel.
Drilling and Blasting Operations
- Manage and delegate the mining cycle activities to relevant supervisors.
- Manage the correct drill parameters.
- Determine and enforce the drilling parameters.
- Build, manage and maintain healthy diverse workable internal relations (Peer, Unions, Team, Organisation) and implement remedial actions where required. Build, manage and maintain Healthy external relations (Head Office, communities, government, etc.) to assist in achievement of organizational goals.
- Maintain internal and external relations to ensure functional/departmental needs are met and employees are satisfied.
- Always making sure the stakeholders comes first when it comes to catering for their needs.
- Address worker concerns and resolve on-shift issues.
Organisational & Growth Perspective:
- Manage and review proactively performance of subordinates in terms of performance agreements, and participatively discuss performance gaps, and performance improvement and having action plans in place.
- Assess potential of SoR/ Mentor SoR/ Oversee the quality of SoR leadership.
- Structured focused development (not ad hoc only). Monitor and provide feedback to reports.
- Coach subordinates.
- Do performance reviews.
- Recommend and approve development plans and optimized team structure is manned by motivated and empowered staff, and lead by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices.
- Promote teamwork, provide support, manage, and evaluate performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance contracts for subordinates.
- Performance agreements in place
- Certain number of coaching sessions.
SHERQ Adherence / Compliance
- Promote adherence to safety, health and environmental practices and procedures. Identify and address unsafe and potentially hazardous situations.
- Department safety representative.
- Translate SHERQ goals applicable as derived from business plan into clear direction and implement effectively and efficiently.
- Ensure adherence to statutory safety regulations and mine standards, procedures, and practices such as PPE, safe working practices, re-entering periods.
- Effectively communicate new regulations and procedures as and when required to ensure employees and contractor awareness and correct implementation thereof.
- Assist in rendering of appropriate first aid to injured person(s) as and when required or refer to qualified persons.
Implement Change Initiatives
- Authorise and drive initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improve productivity and reduce operating costs.
- Initiate and lead Functional/ Departmental change.
- Implement successful change initiatives, plan, and ensure optimal resource utilisation within designated area.
- Ensure compliance with legislation by setting and achieving procurement targets in terms of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment and Mining Charter requirements.
- Develop and implement procurement policies that will aid in the achievement of procurement targets and statutory compliance.
